Capstone Reflection
The last phase of the program is Phase three where we had to create a capstone project and create a plan to accomplish our goals for our capstone project. Here were my career outcome goals and personal/professional goals for my capstone project.
Career outcome
My career outcome that I wanted to accomplish by the end of the program was to land a job. This was important to me because I wanted to start my career as soon as Praxis was finished, enabling me to begin learning and contributing to the business as quickly as possible.
Professional goal
My professional goal was to get better at editing videos and learn a new editing software. I was previously using iMovie, iMovie does have its limits. So I decided to go out to learn Adobe Premiere Pro. YouTube is something I did during phase 2 of Praxis and I absolutely loved it because it focuses on something I am passionate about which is hockey.
Personal goals
My personal goals was to set a plan to workout at least five times a week and to practice some hockey skills for at least fifteen minutes each day.
Each of these goals were picked for a specific reason. I picked landing a job as my career outcome because it is something that was my goal since the beginning of the program. I want to start learning and developing my career in the workspace. Learning a new editing software was picked because I started YouTube the previous month and I enjoyed it a lot, but I knew my editing was a major flaw of mine. When I first created content I started looking at the best content creators to see what makes the videos so entertaining to the audience. What I found was a lot of it comes from the way they edit and create thumbnails for their videos. So I researched all the different editing software and ended up picking Adobe Premiere Pro. I picked working out and practicing hockey for fifteen minutes each day because these are something that I saw as a flaw. I used to consistently workout all the time, but one day I stopped and one day led after another and another and another it was a cycle. I still did sports, but that's different from working out. I wanted to create a routine that I follow five days a week. Next personal goal was to practice hockey for fifteen minutes each day. Hockey is something I am passionate about and also still learning so any time to practice will be beneficial to my game.
Below is the plan that I made for each week to work on something to get closer to my goals:
Results
Reflecting back on those twelve weeks I completed a good amount of the stuff in my plan. Here is the stuff the I created/worked on/did over the last twelve weeks:
Completed 2 HubSport Courses
Completed Praxis Job Hunt Module
Posted 16 videos (7 YouTube Shorts & 9 YouTube Videos)
Learned Adobe Premiere Pro and still continuing to get better at it
Worked on Dog bowl and still working on finding a manufacturer
Followed a good workout plan
Did multiple interviews
Created multiple pitches
Created multiple different sample ads
Applied to over 15 different jobs
Lessons and Reflection:
While I did complete a lot of stuff there were other things that I did not complete as well. For example, I only completed two HubSpot Courses instead of four. I also could have applied to more job opportunities. My main problem was consistency. I was doing good in the beginning, but I think I could've done better overall in my capstone project. Things I would do differently is create a schedule for myself to keep track on what I should be working on at that time. I never really formed a schedule and I just did my work at different times which does not help when trying to be productive.
In summary I definitely think I could have done better on working on my goals. I did not reach my career outcome just yet, which was landing a job, but I am still working on finding the next opportunity. This capstone project is something to learn from and grow from and I am excited to continue learning in my professional and personal life.
